ABOUT THE HUB
A directory built by someone who needed it
The Spoonie Support Hub is an accessible, verified directory connecting chronically ill, disabled, and neurodivergent people in Australia with providers who understand what that actually means.
You know what it feels like to get it wrong
Finding care that understands your body, your limits, and your experience shouldn't take this much out of you.
You've researched a provider for hours, only to feel dismissed in the first five minutes. You've had to explain your diagnosis - and your pain - from scratch, again, to someone who should already know.
You've cancelled appointments because navigating them cost more energy than you had. You've wondered if it's even worth trying again.
We built this for those moments. And for every one that comes after.
LAURISSA’S STORY
I built the thing I desperately needed
I know what it feels like to sit across from someone who was supposed to help - and feel completely dismissed.
For a long time, I was trying to find answers. New symptoms. Real concerns. And instead of being met with curiosity, I was told it was all in my head. I was told I was imagining things. I was told I was "too complicated" - by providers who had already accepted my referral and my consultation fee.
The experience was exhausting. It was heartbreaking. And it cost me time I couldn't get back.
After yet another difficult appointment, I sat with my partner and said, "Why is this so hard?"
Because it shouldn't be.
People who are already managing illness, disability, chronic pain, neurodivergence, or complex health conditions shouldn't have to spend hours researching providers, joining Facebook groups, making phone calls, and taking a gamble on whether they'll actually be treated with respect.
That's when the idea for The Spoonie Support Hub was born.
Why isn't there a directory specifically for providers who are neuroaffirming, trauma-informed, accessible, and genuinely understand complex health needs?
Why isn't there a place where people can search with confidence, instead of starting from scratch every single time?
If it didn't exist - I was going to build it.
"Finally. Someone understands what I've been looking for." That's what I want people to feel when they land here.OUR VALUES
What we stand for.
Everything we build, every decision we make, comes back to these.
1. Dignity
You deserve to be believed, respected, and treated as the expert in your own body.
2. Accessibility
If something costs too much energy to use, it isn't truly helpful. We design for that.
3. Authenticity
No corporate speak. No toxic positivity. No pretending things aren't hard.
4. Honesty
Clear communication that respects your intelligence and your lived experience.
5. Community
Shared understanding and peer support are as valuable as formal services.
6. Sustainability
We build things that last by honouring limits - not glorifying burnout.
